I purchased the cello primarily because of all the outdoor jobs I play during the summer. Although initially suspect of the idea of a carbon fiber cello in the group, my string quartet members took to it immediately once we began to play. The first comment was about the fullness of sound and clarity of pitch from the C string. They all found it easier to keep the collective intonation. Then the “sweetness” of the A string, especially in the upper register. During the “jazz” arrangements, the pizzicato is strong, full, and resonant. And, of course, how “cool” it looks with a tuxedo. We played in a very hot field in direct sunlight, and in a cold, damp tent with the rain pouring buckets down around us. The most remarkable feeling I had was the lack of stress from worrying about the health of a wooden cello. In addition, the Luis and Clark performed beautifully. The geared tuning pegs are a great addition, as in high humidity my wooden pegs sometimes get quite sticky.
I also use the cello in an acoustic nightclub act. The durability of the carbon fiber element makes me feel much less worried about the health of the cello, should someone spill something on it or bump it in any way (not that it has happened yet). The extra sound that the cello put out is a boon, too, and it works very well with a microphone, sounding very natural and acoustic, unlike any of those solid-body electric celli I have heard.
As you can see, I am completely thrilled with this cello. Thanks again for your time and your invention.
